Liz Jones, a headteacher at Abbey Manor College in South London, was savagely attacked by 16 year old Dexter Hungwa just because she asked him to close a door !

As she walked away, he hurled obscenities, called her a "ginger bitch", followed her and punched her in the face.

Her cheekbone was shattered, she almost lost an eye, she suffered bruising, bleeding, immense pain, had trouble eating and sleeping and since the attack, which sent her flying across the school canteen, has had to have counselling for post-traumatic stress disorder.

But when Dexter Hungwa appeared in court, despite admitting causing grievous bodily harm, the only punishment he received was a 12 month community order, ordered to keep a curfew and to be electronically tagged !

Liz Jones said the failure to send Hungwa to jail was "like being punched again".

"It has no regard for either public safety or the safety of anybody else in my position. Any teacher, any head, anybody working with young people is vulnerable."

"It leaves me with very little faith in the criminal justice system. It undermines our work, the work of the police and the work of crime prevention generally."

"When there is a serious offence, it is not being treated seriously and so, as the victim, it's like being punched again."

Judge Lindsay Burn told Hungwa that if prosecutors had pursued a more serious charge against him and argued that he intended to cause Ms Jones serious harm "I would be sending you straight into custody today".

But Hungwa had admitted in court to causing grievous bodily harm and showing so little concern that he had sniggered when interviewed by the police, so why wasn't he sent straight into custody ?

Because today, under our useless contemptible legal system, innocent victims like Liz Jones don't count, and scum are allowed to walk free no matter what their crimes !
