John Reid is to tell judges not to send any more criminals to jail because they are full!
Prison system "in meltdown"!
Because of the Labour governments failure to build more prisons, John Reid will send a letter to judges asking them to jail only the most dangerous criminals ! The letter will finally admit what the public have known for a long time - that there is a crisis in jails - and they are now full and can take no more prisoners ! Magistrates are also to be asked to give bail to all but the most dangerous criminals ! Senior judges have been told that the whole system is now "in meltdown" by John ("broken") Reid, The Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer, and the Attorney General Lord Goldsmith and that drastic steps are now necessary. Panic stricken Home Office officials fear that John Reid will be forced to take drastic actions very soon, virtually all of which are political suicide ! These include releasing thousands of criminals serving less than 12 months who will simply be told they are free to go without any supervision at all - a massive increase in "community sentences, already laughed at by offenders (and they certainly wouldn't be sent to jail if they simply ignored them !) - releasing thousands of prisoners currently on remand - tag thousands of inmates and release them (and look how abused that has been!) - or to free up to 30,000 prisoners before their sentences end! And what will John Reid do when the inevitable happens, and the crime figures rocket as criminals realise that they are free to do exactly what they wish ? What a total absolute unbelievable shambles ! And all of it avoidable with a REAL Criminal Justice System where criminals are punished instead of pandered to, where police officers are on the streets chasing criminals, not meaningless "targets", where judges actually uphold the law, and where jails do not get overcrowded because every one knows that if they commit a crime they will be caught and the punishments will be extremely severe !
