HELEN MAUGHAN MURDER - 13 YEAR-OLD SCHOOLBOY ARRESTED!

A 13-year-old schoolboy has been arrested over the murder of young mother Helen Maughan.

The boy is being held by detectives investigating the killing of 24-year-old Helen Maughan. The mum of one was found naked from the waist down in the River Colne in Colchester. Police say she had been sexually assaulted. Ms Maughan is believed to have been attacked on the towpath of the river, beaten to death and then her body dumped in the water. The arrest follows the release last week of CCTV images of two young men riding bicycles just yards from where the victim's body was found. Helen Maughan was staying in a refuge for victims of domestic violence at the time of her death. Police seal off the section of the River Colne where Helen Maughan's floating body was found She was last seen in Colchester town centre on Friday 18 May Her body was spotted at 10.45am on the next Sunday. Items of her clothing were found nearby, but her silver Samsung phone has never been found. Police described today's arrest as "significant" and said inquiries were continuing. The 13-year-old boy was being questioned in a Colchester police station this morning. helen Maughan's sisters Katie and Louise Harris said previously they were desperate to find out what happened to her. In a statement they added: "Helen was a very special sister to us in so many ways and a really fun auntie. "She deserved so much better than this tragedy which is why we hope that the police investigation will eventually lead us to being able to lay her to rest." A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of Miss Maughan's murder but has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. HELEN MAUGHAN
