Sharmaarke Hassan

Sharmaarke Hassan died in hospital last night, after being found with a gunshot wound in Gilbey's Yard, Camden, North London, shortly after 11pm on Saturday night.
Officers from Operation Trident, the Met's black-on-black gun crime unit, are investigating the possibility that the shooting was a drugs-related gang attack. Sharmaarke is believed to have been a member of a gang known as The Money Squad (TMS). (

The 17-year-old was found guilty of possessing cannabis and offering to supply the drug at Thames Youth Court last month and was given a one-year community punishment order and ordered to do 40 hours of community service. The local authorities tried to ban alleged gang members from Camden at an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (Asbo) hearing a fortnight ago but a district judge refused interim orders on all but three including Hassan.
According to local reports, Hassan was shot as he sat with a group of youths on a bench in Gilbey's Yard, overlooking The Regent's Canal. Local residents said the bench was a hang-out for drug dealers from nearby Camden High Street and King's Cross.
Superintendent Paul Morris from Camden Borough Police said: "This is a shocking tragedy. We have stepped up patrols in the borough to reassure the community and specialist officers are investigating the incident." "In addition, we are working closely with community groups to offer any other reassurance which we can."
