Thomas Hughes was convicted today of shooting dead pregnant Krystal Hart in a cold-blooded execution following a doorstep row.

An Old Bailey jury took just three hours to find "wannabe gangster" Hughes guilty of the murder of Krystal Hart on Good Friday last year. He was jailed for life with a minimum term of 30 years.

Miss Hart, who was two months pregnant, had recently given up her job as a temporary secretary working in the office of then deputy prime minister John Prescott at the Houses of Parliament.

She lived in the upstairs flat in Belleville Road, Battersea, and had fallen foul of her downstairs "neighbour from hell" Angie Brewer, who was a serial complainer, and friendly with Hughes, who became involved in a row over a parking space between Angie Brewer and David Siveter, Krystal's boyfriend.

Enraged because David Siveter had written down his car number, Hughes, who was said to be infatuated with Angie Brewer, went home to collect a gun and returned to the Miss Hart's flat looking for Mr Siveter. (Krystal Hart)

After discovering that he was not home, he banged at the door and demanded Miss Hart open it, calling out: "Come out bitch."

When Krystal Hart finally opened the door Thomas Hughes put the gun to her head and shot her, then shot her once more through the open door as she lay on the floor.

Jailing Hughes, Judge Anthony Morris said: "This was a ruthless execution by you and a truly evil act."
