A student who died after being stabbed in the head could have been murdered as part of a gang initiation.

He was set upon by about 10 young men armed with baseball bats, broken bottles and knives and was stabbed repeatedly, including twice in the head. (Yasin Abdirahman)

A group of around 10 black youths wearing dark clothing, hoods and scarves were seen leaving the area afterwards, running out of the Windmill Park Estate onto the Uxbridge Road.

The pharmacy student, who went to the London Metropolitan University, was taken to New Ealing Hospital, west London, by a friend who pulled up in a car minutes after the attack on Monday last week. However, Yasin Abdirahman, of Navigator Drive, Southall, slipped into a coma and later died.

Friends said he had been targeted as part of an initiation ceremony by a gang known locally as MDP, or "Murder Dem Pussies".

Mohamed Aweis, 22, said: "In order to get into the gang they have to stab someone just to prove a point. They have issues with people from the Ealing estate and so went there looking for someone.

"It did not matter who. Yasin just got caught up in it - he had nothing to do with gangs - he was clever at university - it's just unbelievable that he was targeted."

Friends said Somalian-born Mr Abdirahman, who arrived in the UK in 1990, had been working in a call centre to raise extra money to send his mother and sister on holiday.

His mother, Fadumo, returned from a trip to Dubai to keep a vigil by her son's hospital bed after the attack. She and Mr Abdirahman's sister Laila, were too upset to speak about their loss.

One man is being held in custody in connection with the stabbing. Another three men were released without charge.

So another decent man is stabbed to death and for what reason - just so that some inhuman scum can prove they are capable of destroying a human life and in doing so get to join a gang comprised of more scum - typical of the values of the scum New Labour has allowed to infest this country and just one more reason we need the Death Penalty restored!
