In a replica of another Home Office bungle where 27,000 criminal records were left gathering dust on Home Office shelves, it now turns out that more than 26,000 DNA profiles were never added to the National DNA database over a NINE YEAR period !
Because of this nearly 200 crimes went undetected for up to ELEVEN years all because this vital DNA information was left lying around in boxes !The crimes included arson, robberies, burglaries, drug offences, thefts, criminal damage, cannabis production, public order offences, drink-driving offences, intimidating a witness or juror, perverting the course of justice, carrying an offensive weapon, a car theft, a benefit fraud and one paedophile offence ! Unbelievably, or perhaps believably, knowing this governments record of lies and spin, Chief constables have known about the scandal since July 2005 and Home Office junior minister Joan Ryan has known about it since January, but have kept quiet about it while they tried to sort out the mess ! A Home Office spokesman tried to excuse the shambles saying: "Between 1995 and 2004 there was a number of DNA profiles which could not be loaded on the National DNA Database (NDNAD) due to incomplete information." What he didn't say was that the "incomplete information" was errors made by police and scientists which meant they didn't have all the details needed to enter the samples, such as names, ages or addresses, but instead of sorting it all out, DNA samples were simpy left lying in boxes while hundreds of criminals were allowed to remain at large ! And 6,000 samples will NEVER be loaded on to the database, for legal and "technical reasons" such as staff having no idea when they were taken ! It is another complete and utter shambles, to be added to a level of incompetence which to most people now amounts to nothing less than total criminal insanity ! But then, that is only to be expected from a government with an intimate knowledge of lies, deceit and incompetence and nothing at all about keeping it's promises about actually reducing crime !
