The shambles of New Labour's prison crisis reaches new heights of lunacy every day - now it has been admitted that, despite all the promises from ministers, tens of thousands of early release prisoners will have NO "risk assessment" carried out to find out how much of a danger they will pose to the public if they are released!

It is absolutely typical of this government's monstrously inverted values that while councils up and down the country are expanding their staff to produce more and more ludicrous "risk assessments" on everything from hanging baskets to bonfires, the very REAL risks from the early release of tens of thousands of convicts is to be totally ignored!

The overcrowding crisis in prisons means that so many convicts are being released the probation service simply cannot cope and they can't even check that addresses provided by released convicts are even genuine, meaning dangerous convists, including rapists, can simply disappear! (Full story here)

The Ministry of Justice has promised that freed convicts will remain under the supervision of the Probation Service, but probation officers estimate that to deal with this increase they will need an extra 250 staff, costing £10million, yet Lord Falconer has allocated just £300,000!

And this from a government who has wasted £7 BILLION in the last three years on an army of high priced "consultants" - has thrown away £12 BILLION on the NHS computer fiasco - and will spend at least £10 BILLION on the olympics!

But then it has long been obvious to everyone, except of course the ministers involved, that the protection of the public is the last thing on this useless government's mind!

And the early release from prison will do absolutely NOTHING to solve the overcrowding crisis in our prisons because that crisis is one of this government's own making, and of the 25,500 prisoners released we can be certain that many will re-offend again, since they are serial criminals who regard the law as something they don't have to be concerned with!

And as they offend again and again, the government will be forced to release more and more criminals to commit more and more crimes against the decent people of this country!
