Too dangerous to climb!

Forty five police officers were forced to attend health and safety seminars to teach them how to climb 3 feet up a ladder to install anti-speeding devices!

Even though they had been erecting the portable signs for months without any training at all, when health and safety bosses learned about it they were banned from climbing the ladders without "special training"!

They were also banned from moving the signs between locations until they had special training, leaving the devices, which cost up to £3,500, to gather dust for four months! (H&S Gestapo)

MPs reacted with disbelief and branded the health and safety scheme, which more than 80 civilian volunteers have also gone on, a waste of taxpayers money and police time.

As part of the seminar police officers and civilian workers were warned they must wear high-visibility jackets and leggings and cone off the area when installing signs in bad weather just in case pedestrians bump into their ladder!

A senior police officer also said: "...it is time the health and safety gestapo had their wings clipped so that people can go about their jobs using their own common sense!"

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "It would appear that, although working at less than one metre above ground level, staff should have been on a ladder training course."

"It is fair to say that risks associated with deployment of a Spid sign have not changed, but the risks associated with working at height (under 1 metre!) were not fully appreciated initially!"

Does this mean that no police officer or PCSO can climb ANY ladder unless he (or she) has been on a health and safety course to teach them the right way to climb a ladder?

And what happens if an officer comes across a burglar climbing a ladder which is higher than 3 feet? - does he have to go back and get health and safety training on the proper way to climb a ladder and apprehend a burglar before he takes any action?

And THAT is the lunatic logic behind the Health and Safety Gestapo who abandoned common sense years ago!
