Police Bikes banned - by police!

Greater Manchester Police, who just four months ago arrested David Williams for having a life size dummy of Lara Croft, has now stopped 300 fully-fledged officers and PCSOs from patrolling on their bikes because of safety fears!
The patrols are popular with the public because they allow officers to chase criminals down narrow lanes and through parks and because they act as a visible deterrent. (Police Biking Banned!) But after the death of PCSO Christopher Maclure, 21, who suffered head injuries in an accident with a lorry in Wigan, police chiefs say they fear the officers do not have enough training to handle road conditions across Greater Manchester.
The GMP is already facing public fury over claims that two of its PCSO failed to save 10-year old Jordon Lyon from drowning in a pond in Wigan. Philip Davies, Tory MP for Shipley, branded the latest move "Barmy...GMP have already defended two PCSO officers despite them standing by as a youngster drowned."
"Now they are making loony policies like pulling 300 bike patrol officers off the streets in case they fall off and hurt themselves. God knows what health and safety will make of their armed response teams - probably tell them not to carry weapons in case they hurt someone." And Tory MP David Davies, MP for Monmouthshire, said "This is unbelievable," he said. "How much training does it take to ride a bike?"
But it was left to a GMP spokesman to let the cat out of the bag when he said: "The safety of our officers and staff is our first priority" ! And what about the reason for having a police force in the first place - the safety of the public who actually pay their wages ?
Well these days the public no longer matter - not to the government and certainly not to Greater Manchester Police who are much more concerned about one of their officers falling off his bike than they are about the effects on the crime rates of pulling 300 highly visible officers off their bikes!
