And you definitely don't expect to be manhandled, arrested, thrown into a police cell for 13 hours, then charged with a firearms offence !

But that is exactly what happened to computer shop owner David Williams when Manchester police, calling at his home, mistook a life sized model of Lara Croft for a gunman !

They called for armed backup, who burst into his house, forced the terrified David Williams to lie on the floor and ordered him to surrender his weapon ! (Full story here)

It was only when they found out that the "armed gunman" was a model of Lara Croft that they finally accepted a mistake had been made - THEN they arrested David Williams, kept him in a police cell for over 13 hours, and charged him with a firearms offence because the model of Croft was holding a model gun !

Yes, you read that correctly - David Williams was arrested for having a life sized model of Lara Croft in his living room !

He said he was speaking to lawyers about a claim for wrongful arrest - "It would have been laughable if it hadn't been so terrifying...I couldn't believe it when I realised they'd mistaken a Lara Croft dummy for someone with a gun." he said.

"When I got to the station, the officer who'd called for back-up was getting a load of stick about the whole thing, and I thought they'd accept it had all been a misunderstanding."

But that of course is to underestimate the cretinous stupidity of a police force which refuses to accept that a mistake is a mistake even when every sane, rational person in the country can see the mistake !

So David Williams, who made the mistake of thinking the police were there to help him, was terrified, manhandled, had his DNA and fingerprints taken, thrown into a police cell for over 13 hours, charged with a firearms offence and could still appear in court !

Perhaps the police responsible for this debacle could be replaced with Lara Croft models - after all they obviously have more wit, brains and intelligence than the gung-ho brain dead dummies of Manchester police !
