Brett Blake

"I can't believe Brett has gone, this is every mother's nightmare and something should be done to stop our sons and daughters dying like this."
These are the words of the mother of Brett Blake who died from multiple stab wounds after being attacked by three or four men in the Club Uniq, Sheffield, just days after Gordon Brown promised to get tough on knife crime! Jacqueline Nicholson, 44, from Sheffield, said: "Knives are more deadly than guns. Knives are easier to get hold of and many more young people seem to be killed by them than guns."
"I believe that as soon as somebody carries a knife their whole attitude changes. Arguments can develop when young people have been drinking but if they are unarmed they are more likely to back down but if someone is carrying a knife it makes them braver. As soon as trouble starts the knife comes out and it escalates from there." Car dealer Brett Blake lived with university student girlfriend Natalja Gordon, 24, and their two-year-old daughter Taliyah in Longley, Sheffield.
He was in the Club Uniq in Carver Street when he was attacked by three or four men at 2.35am on Saturday.
Two members of staff tried to intervene and suffered knife wounds. One was released from hospital after being treated for a wound to the stomach and another was detained with serious cuts to his hands.
Police and paramedics were called and Mr Blake was rushed to the city's Royal Hallamshire Hospital but died of his injuries about 90 minutes later.
Police questioned staff and revellers and are studying CCTV footage to piece together details of the murder.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said 'He was stabbed repeatedly during the attack and two other men were also injured. A post mortem shows that he died from multiple stab wounds.
'We are not releasing other details for operational purposes. Although we have questioned witnesses we want anyone else who has information to come forward. No arrests have been made at this time.'
The club has a 'No Search - No Entry' policy and bans hoods and caps.
Mother of three Mrs Nicholson, added: 'Brett looked like a hard man but looks are deceptive, he had a real soft centre. He was devoted to his girlfriend and their baby.
'He absolutely idolised his little girl and spent more time with her than most young dads because Natalja was spending a lot of time studying for a Business Studies degree.
'Natalja is in pieces and my little granddaughter doesn't know what is happening. I've no idea what happened but Brett was such a lovely popular lad and the phone hasn't stopped ringing with calls from his friends.
'Earlier in the day he had been to a funeral of a friend who had been killed in a car crash. Apparently he had not been in the club long and then this happened.'
South Yorkshire Police also launched a murder inquiry when a second youth was stabbed to death in an apparent domestic incident at a house in Doncaster.
Police found 19-year-old Frazer Endicott on the pavement after being called to the house on Bainbridge Road at 12.30am on Saturday. He was rushed to Doncaster Royal Infirmary but was pronounced dead on arrival. A 24-year-old man was last night being questioned by police.
Last week Gordon Brown responded to the wave of teenage murders by ordering police forces to prosecute youngsters who carry knives. Teenagers 16 or over will face court action rather than a caution if they are caught with a knife.
