They called it "terroring" and the name was hideously descriptive of what Craig Dodd and Ryan Palin did to David Atherton, a vulnerable man, alone, alcoholic and described as "mentally dysfunctional."
Their "terroring" of this totally defenceless man included pouring bleach, drinks and food onto him, setting his hair on fire, urinating on him, vandalising his flat and inflicting regular beatings, of increasingly savage ferocity. Dodd, 17, and Palin, 15, described at their trial at Warrington Crown Court, as "feral, wild and untamed," were part of a teenage gang who targeted vulnerable adults in Warrington, Cheshire.
They targeted vulnerable David Atherton and subjected him to months of bullying and torture, and finally, as they later boasted to friends, they "winged him into the water," not a harmless bit of fun as it may sound, but a deliberate act of murder, where, after savagely beating him, they each took an arm and a leg and threw him into the river Mersey where he drowned !
When they were finally brought to trial they were, naturally, allowed to plead guilty to manslaughter, not murder, which meant they could walk free in less than four years !
Four years for subjecting a vulnerable man to months of torture, bullying and beatings, before finally murdering him ! No wonder that Dodd smirked and gave a 'thumbs-up' gesture to friends in the public gallery after being sentenced !
That sneering contempt was his comment on our non-judgemental, non-punishment, do-nothing, "justice" system which spawned them - feral youths, like jungle predators, destroying the most vulnerable in society, while we do nothing to tame or stop them, even when they finally murder !
