Two teenagers have been arrested after young asthma sufferer David Procter from York was allegedly stripped naked, beaten and set upon by dogs in a park robbery.

Hospital porter David Procter was left with serious facial injuries, including a broken nose, a fractured cheekbone and shattered teeth, after being attacked while visiting his father in Bradford.

The 16-year-old was taken to hospital by a passing motorist who draped a blanket over him following the incident in the West Yorkshire city's Manningham Park - which he claims also saw a gang of three youths targeting him and stealing his mobile phone and jewellery, as well as unleashing a dog which bit his ear.

At the time of the alleged attack, at around 4.15am on Sunday, April 20, David had been trying to make his way to his father's house - where he had been staying following a family funeral - after being treated for chest pains at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

A 17-year-old from Bradford, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has appeared before magistrates in the city charged with robbery and has been remanded in custody, while a 19-year-old youth has also arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail pending further inquiries.

David's mother Julie, 48, who lives with her son in York, and has thanked the driver who took him to hospital, said: "His nose was broken and now he's struggling to breathe.

"David has had one operation where they broke it again, but it didn't work so he is having to go back again. He was fine when they broke it again - I was the one who nearly fainted.

"He had three of his teeth broken and his cheekbone, which should heal naturally but might need a metal plate putting in. I couldn't believe it when I saw him in the hospital bed - it just wasn't my son."

Detectives have described the incident as "unusual", and are continuing to appeal for witnesses, having taken David back to the scene in a search for clues and studied CCTV in the area.
